The Co-ordinator, Children’s Services will consider and decide on whether or not parents and/ or children should attend an initial referral discussion. In general meetings should be open to parents and children, dependant on their age and understanding, but there are exceptions. For example:
- There are occasions when it is necessary to exclude parents and children when evidential matters are discussed, when their attendance might jeopardise subsequent court proceedings.
- There are also occasions when it is appropriate for professionals to meet without the parents or children to discuss inter-agency and professional issues about a particular case.
