Initial referral discussions (share your concerns)

Initial Referral Discussions (IRD) should be convened across agencies where social work services and police have assessed there is no immediate danger or risk to the child and where there is a lack of clarity about how best to proceed.

IRDs should be convened by a suitably qualified manager to gather and share information; determine risks to the child and agree appropriate actions to be taken to ensure the safety and best outcome for the child. IRDs should be considered where there is complexity and potential gaps in the available information and enables shared decision making across partner agencies.
